How It Started
We met in the middle of hurricane season.
2024 had been relentless — storms forming back-to-back, evacuation alerts, endless worry… Somewhere between storm updates and scrolling, we crossed paths, both admitting we were turning to our work to stay grounded.
That quiet moment of connection sparked something.
Two women artists, both living and working in the heart of Florida. We shared similar values — a love for slow process, natural materials, and a commitment to making meaningful, heirloom work.
Karen's background in ceramics and my work with seashells led us to explore how we could merge our approaches- translating my original Shellscapes into ceramic forms. I focus on the composition. Karen molds, glazes, and fires every piece by hand. From the start, it’s been a true collaboration, built on mutual respect for each other’s craft.
Together we created a Ceramic Series — a small-batch collection of ceramic artworks that echo the textures and compositions of my original shell pieces. Each one is made by hand, in Florida, with the same level of care and attention that defines everything I do.
It’s a quiet evolution of Shellscapes® — and the beginning of something new.
Meet the Artist
Karen Tharp is a seasoned ceramicist with decades of experience working in clay. She’s taught ceramics at the university level, exhibited her work in galleries, and brings a level of craftsmanship and technical precision that’s rare to find.
From porcelain lighting to sculptural wall pieces, Karen’s work reflects deep knowledge of the material — and a clear creative voice shaped by years at the wheel and in the kiln.
We share similar values — a love for slow process, natural materials, and a commitment to making meaningful, heirloom work.
