A Work of Art in a Space of Serenity

When it comes to designing a home, every detail plays a role in shaping the atmosphere. This commission for a private residence in Illinois was no exception. The client knew exactly what she wanted—a Labor of Love artwork inspired by one of my earlier creations. Measuring 24” x 48” and framed in a light blonde wood, this intricate piece was designed to be the focal point above her freestanding bathtub, blending seamlessly into the serene, spa-like ambiance of the bathroom.

The Art of Intricacy

The name Labor of Love is no exaggeration. This artwork was created using thousands of individually placed cay cay shells, forming a delicate floral pattern with a mosaic-like effect. An essential part of the process was carefully selecting each shell by size, ensuring the composition flowed naturally and maintained a sense of depth. Every shell was positioned with precision, allowing the intricate details to emerge organically, creating a mesmerizing texture that invites closer inspection.

A Perfect Balance

Every element of the artwork was chosen to complement the bathroom’s warm, neutral palette. The soft ivory tones of the shells harmonize with the textured tilework and brushed brass fixtures, while the light blonde wood frame ties in beautifully with the natural materials in the space. The result is an artwork that enhances its tranquility, creating a seamless connection between art and environment.
