How a Bathroom Inspired an Entire Tile Collection

The idea came in a white-tiled bathroom on Sanibel Island. I was there installing a custom fireplace surround and as the client showed me around, everything in the house felt thoughtful. Lived in. Full of care. But it was one of the bathrooms that stopped me.
The tiles — white, sculptural, completely unique — felt like art. And I had a thought I couldn’t shake:
Art Tiles
At the time, I wasn’t sure how it would take shape. I just knew I couldn’t let it go.
Not long after, I met Karen. Not at a gallery opening or a networking dinner with tiny hors d'oeuvres. No. We met on Instagram and like most creative collaborations these days, it started with a DM.
I believe people cross our paths for a reason. And when Karen and I finally met in person, it felt like one of those rare creative collisions that was just… meant to happen.

We talked for hours. About the process. About making things that last. About what it means to create work that feels timeless and three hours later, we were practically finishing each other’s sentences.
When I told Karen about this idea — turning my shellwork into tiles — she didn’t blink.
She just said, “I think we can do that.”
What followed was months of experimenting.
We rolled up our sleeves — and by “we” I mostly mean Karen, who spent the next six months elbow-deep in clay. There were test firings, cracked tiles, glaze experiments that went sideways. But somehow, all of it felt like progress. Because when the first perfect piece came out of the kiln — we knew.
This was it.

If you're curious to see where this collaboration is headed, we’d love to have you along for the journey.
