Every commission is unique, but some stand out for their scale and variety. For this private residence in Ponte Vedra Beach, the client envisioned a collection of artworks that would bring natural texture into their home. The result was a series of seven pieces, each with its own composition but tied together through thoughtful material choices and framing.

The Vision
The commission included two distinct parts:
A 24” x 24” artwork featuring hand-cut and heat-manipulated Capiz shells in a fish-like formation, set on linen and framed in my signature float mount style.
A series of six artworks on a dark green grasscloth backer, framed in natural maple. These pieces, each with a different composition, were designed to be hung in a grid-style installation in the entryway.
The client selected a mix of my signature shell compositions, including:
Serena
Beach Daisy
Flower Power
Wave
Hydrangea
Fenella
The Process
This was my first time working with grasscloth as a backer, which presented some challenges but ultimately resulted in a striking contrast that made the shellwork stand out beautifully. The natural maple frames tied everything together, adding warmth and cohesion to the collection.
Installation & Final Look
The six grasscloth-backed artworks were installed in the entryway as a gallery-style grid, creating a bold yet elegant statement as soon as you step inside. The Capiz shell fish composition, with its sculptural texture and soft shimmer, became a focal point on its own.
This project was a perfect example of how different materials and compositions can work together to create something both cohesive and visually dynamic. The combination of grasscloth, maple, linen, and shells brought natural elements into the home in a way that felt elevated yet effortless.
